Lara Alma Surfing Msc. is an artist/scientific illustrator living and working in the badlands of Drumheller, Alb-erta. Lara grew interested in visual art, particularly scratchboard, at an early age while studying under Master Scratchboard Artist, Ai Nelson Weitzel. Lira's MSc. degree in biomechanics and functional morphology has given her an in depth knowledge of anatomy and movement that allows her to accurately portray wildlife and their behaviour. Lira was completing her PhD when she developed severe schizophrenia. It was her return to Scratch Art Therapy that finally allowed her to cope with her illness. Like the endless variety of life, Lara's artwork evolves with the passing of time, providing opportunities For change and renewal. Many of Lara's works can be found in Drumheller, Alberta at 3rd Avenue Arts, Dry Canyon Collectables and Natural Light Images Gallery,. where 10% of all sales are donated to the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta to further research and help cure mental health stigma.
